About Marc

The voice behind Sage's writing.

Marc Berry has spent his career inside the insurance business — first at the carriers, then building the companies that bring them customers.

He started in 1999 at Progressive, and later Allstate, in the years personal lines moved from local agents to call centers and then onto the internet. Working at a carrier means learning how a policy is actually priced, sold, serviced, and paid out — the parts consumers never see, and the parts that decide whether coverage does what someone assumed it would.

In 2007 he left to build his own companies. Over the following two decades he founded, scaled, and sold multiple businesses in insurance lead generation and digital property and casualty distribution — the machinery that finds consumers, qualifies them, and routes them to someone who will sell them a policy. He knows what a click costs, what a lead is worth, how a funnel gets optimized, and exactly which parts of that process work against the person filling out the form.

Sage is what he built instead. The industry has always been able to capture a consumer's information; until recently it could not answer their question. Marc started Sage to find out what happens when a company does the second thing first — explains coverage plainly, expects nothing in return, and, once Sage is paid at all, will earn only when someone decides on their own terms to buy.
